This Macallan ‘Adami’ 1926, bottle 12 of 12 in a series produced in 1986, has set a new world record, becoming the most expensive whisky ever sold. This single bottle of the 60 year old whisky (at bottling) has sold at Sothebys for £1 million over the highest pre-sale estimate.

Auctioneers Sothebys created an excellent video about the bottle and it's significant importance in the history of the Macallan whiskies, in their build up to the 18 November 2023 auction. Watch the video here:

The whisky bottle went on to sell for an incredible £2.2 millionwell in excess of its £750,000 – £1.2 million estimate. Lot 16 on the day, the incredible bottle was one of only forty ever produced from Cask #263, establishing the potential total value of that single cask of the Macallan at anything up to £80 million.

We can't help but think this demonstrates in part the incredible potential for investors who are willing to hold their whisky investment until scarcity is at its absolute peak. Have you ever considered what your own cask investment might be worth if you hold for 20, 30 or even 40 years?
