Discover Ledaig (Letch-ick)

Originally founded in 1798 by John Sinclair as the Ledaig Distillery, Tobermory is the only distillery on the Isle of Mull. The Isle of Mull, the second-biggest island of the inner Hebrides, is situated in the western isles of the Whisky Highland area.

Despite the Scottish islands being geographically grouped and offering a very diverse and different taste to other whiskies, the Islands are not officially recognised as a standalone whisky-producing region by the Scotch Whisky Association.

At MacInnes, we like to recognise the distinct style of Islands whisky and call the Highlands region Highlands and Islands - you can read more about the whisky regions here.

Tobermory is a thriving, expressive and unique distiller, and its history has a past as colourful as the Hebridean town’s seafront homes.

The Ledaig name was reintroduced in 2007, with the launch of the heavily peated 10-year-old single malt - a distinct contrast in style from the unpeated Tobermory.

Whisky Region - more about Highlands (& Islands)

As the largest of all the whisky regions, the tastes and flavours of the Highlands region are as varied as the wild and breathtaking landscape. From the lightly fruity, dry styles of a Southern Highlands Scotch to the rich, full-bodied mouthful of a Northern Highland whisky, the distilleries range from the Aberfeldy to the Glenmorangie.

Then you have the western isles of Jura, Mull, Skye, Arran and the Orkney Islands. Known as the whisky coast, these islands serve up spicy, intense, smoky flavours influenced by their coastal location and peaty landscape.

Our Tasting Notes

Colour: Bright lemony gold
Nose: Briny smokiness, a distinct island character, and soft notes that hint at mild antiseptic
Palate: Sweet, medicinal flavours infused with sparks of spicy pepper and dried fruit
Finish: A wondrous union of white pepper, liquorice, and cloves, with a lingering saltiness
